This is such a difficult concept for some to take, myself included. I was born and raised as a Sunday and Holiday’s Catholic as a child and the Catholic faith left a bad taste in my mouth. I thought they were all hypocrites. And I was right. None of us are perfect – people in church included. I had no idea that there was a difference between…[Read more]

I have read the Alcoholics Anonymous book “The Big Book” several times over and have spent countless hours pondering and relating to the ideas in it. Bill W., one of the AA founders, was the author of the majority of it. Being new to recovery and accepting the fact of alcoholism as a disease can be a hard concept for many newcomers to…[Read more]

Hey everyone I’m Maude and I’m an alcoholic. I’m excited about this forum. I have bipolar 2 and complex ptsd. I was basically untreated for twenty five years. It wasn’t until I was properly medicated for my bipolar 2 and did some work on my ptsd that I was even really able to participate in AA. 60% of addicts have a cocurring mental/mood…[Read more]

Twelve Steps
1. We admitted we were powerless over our trauma and the effects of the trauma–that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless…[Read more]

As with any open forum, there are rules. We have four very simple ones. Since this website was built for the purpose of finding recovery through the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, we also recognize ALL of the 12 Traditions as a foundation of how we operate.
Be respectful: We’re all at different stages of recovery. As such, we all have…[Read more]

I wanted to share this quote that I love:
“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”It makes me think of Step 4. I’m not quite ready yet to move from Step 3 but this quote reminds me that I must move forward with thi…[Read more]

I recall distinctly, after going out on another binge, my wife and in-laws asking me, “I don’t understand, when your life and family and all you love is on the line, why you CHOOSE to drink.” The truth is, I didn’t understand it either. It was unexplainable. I had been in the program of AA for over a decade, with several long stretches of…[Read more]
