With Mother’s Day here, I am fortunate enough to have some great mothers in my life to celebrate with. Being clean and sober for myself means that I can be an active participant in the lives of these great women. […]

Thanks for sharing that, Brad. Wow! An amazing and powerful story.

I’ve been trying hard NOT to cry for the past few days, and now this. Thank you so much for sharing this story Brad. I am struggling with forgiving my parents and this is a powerful example for me — that it can be done — and the relief and peace that follows.

Wow, powerful story Brad, thank you for this.

Hi Emma. Welcome! Firstly, congratulations on 10 months of sobriety! What a great achievement. But being sober/clean by itself doesn’t solve the problems in our lives. Which is likely what you’re experiencing now. I know it because I’ve lived it myself. I went through a mental breakdown after 2.5 years sober.
My suggestion to someone who is…[Read more]

Good job coming to this realization, Rosemary! And welcome here. Whether or not you believe you’re alcoholic (by the definition), you can still practice one day at a time.

I had a pretty messed up upbringing. My family life as a child was filled with mental, verbal and physical abuse. My parents were divorced before I can even remember. My dad was present but absent at the same […]

I suffered a different type of abuse.. it was more of mental and physical abuse. my mother would have never support alcohol or drug abuse however here we are. My sister is a recovered drug a user and I could not be more proud. I always felt that I was alright up until recently. I am definitely drinking more than what is typical for your average adult. I have a marriage that is not great and a job that requires more than any person can deal with. I’m going on 7 years on my job. I cannot deal with my past issues and current issues. I’m dealin with alcohol and that is not alright. I need support

J, you’ve come to a great place for support, and I pray that you will stick around and get it. The other thing is to ask God to help. Seek him with your whole heart, and you will find Him
For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord ’s declaration — “plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.

Post your favorite recovery jokes. I’d love to hear them!
I’ll start with a couple:
Q: How many alcoholics does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Just one. He holds the bulb and the world revolves around him.Q: How many addiction counselors does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Just one. But the light bulb has to want to change. -

5 basics:
1) Pray for God to help you stay sober another day
2) Read your Big Book. 2 pages. Not 1. Not 3. 2!
3) Call your sponsor
4) Get your butt to a meeting
5) Thank God for another day sober -

Brad, I sent you a friend request on this site, but I don’t think you’ve accepted it. I wanted you to know that there was someone on the site yesterday and today named Kourosh, who identified themselves as a student observer because they are taking a class on alcohol dependence. I explained what this site is for and when they didn’t log off, I…[Read more]
